OUR HISTORY
1950 - Foundation
Established as a response to growing international tensions, our organization was founded with a commitment to national defense and security.
1975 - Modernization
Over the decades, NATO has expanded to include former Soviet bloc countries, reinforcing its role in European security. With the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991, NATO adapted its strategic objectives to address emerging global threats such as terrorism, cyber warfare, and regional conflicts.
2001 - Global Response
FSupreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe (SHAPE): Located in Mons, Belgium, SHAPE is responsible for overseeing military operations and strategic planning. It is headed by the Supreme Allied Commander Europe (SACEUR), who is traditionally a senior U.S. military officer.
Present Day
Allied Command Operations (ACO): ACO is responsible for NATO's military missions and operational command structures. Allied Command Transformation (ACT): Based in Norfolk, Virginia, ACT focuses on innovation, training, and the development of future capabilities for NATO forces.
